Doctoral Researchers in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science

Employer

Technische Universität Dresden (TUD)

Location:

Germany

Job Type

Fully Funded

Deadline

03.02.2023

About us :

There are 14 positions available as Doctoral Researchers in the Research Training Group on Planar Carbon Lattices (RTG2861-PCL).

Are you interested in a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, or materials science? Do you have an interest in carbon materials? Want to work with leading groups at Germany's top materials science universities, Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU)?

Join our new research training group RTG2861-PCL, funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. By employing advanced experimental and theoretical methods in an interdisciplinary approach bridging synthetic chemistry, condensed matter physics, and materials science, we aim to achieve atomic-precision synthesis and exploration of new planar carbon lattices (PCLs) for next-generation quantum materials, functional precision membranes, and optoelectronic and electrochemical devices. Our dual-site collaboration will set the standard for research-based education in PCL by using our expertise in synthesis, function exploration, and theoretical description, along with the complementary laboratory equipment available at our institutions.

Job Description :

Starting April 1st, 2023, there will be 7 positions in Dresden (TUD) and 7 in Erlangen (FAU). Doctoral researchers will be hired under an employment contract and work on individual research projects. 75 percent of the full-time weekly hours are covered by the employment contract, which is initially limited to 36 months.

Eligibility Criteria :

  • Master's degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science with a specialization in synthetic chemistry, physical chemistry, theoretical chemistry/physics, condensed-matter physics, or nanosciences;

  • Results on individual performance criteria (master thesis manuscript/publication, awards);

  • Motivated to conduct independent research and work in interdisciplinary teams;

  • Excellent command of the English language, both verbally and in writing;

  • A letter of recommendation from the supervisor of your master's thesis (and, if available, a link to your thesis);

  • The motivation letter should include your reasons for joining the RTG2861-PCL team, two of the fourteen topics you are most interested in, and two supervisors you would like to work with. You can find all the information you need on the website.

How to apply

To apply, send your CV, Master/diploma certificate and transcript of grades, your letter of recommendation from your master thesis supervisor, and your motivation letter (as described above) to rtg2861-pcl (at) tu-dresden.de. Applications are due February 3rd, 2023. Applications after the deadline may also be considered, as the recruitment process will continue until the positions are filled.
