Would you like to study in Italy as an international student? It is with great pleasure that the European University Institute offers four-year Doctorate Scholarships in Economics, History, Civilization, Law, and Political Science.
International students studying for their PhDs in Italy are offered approximately 150 fully-funded scholarship programs every year by EUI Member States and the Associated Member States.
European University Institute is an international research and study center in the Tuscan hills overlooking Florence, founded in 1972.

Job Description :

You are assigned a supervisor when you arrive at the EUI, who can guide you in developing your ideas, while first-year courses provide you with research training. During your second and third years, you continue to work on your dissertation, which may include fieldwork, data collection, or statistical analysis. Additionally, you can participate in departmental seminars and workshops or take advantage of professional or university traineeships. Your thesis is completed during your fourth year.

Prepare for the defense of your thesis. In order to ensure high quality, EUI supervision is thorough and intense regular assessment. We support the development of teaching skills, offer exchanges with major European and North American universities, and fund research missions overseas. In addition to our world-class social sciences research library, EUI has the prestigious Historical Archives of the European Union, as well as extensive multi-lingual collections and services for advanced research.

Eligibility Criteria :

  • All nationalities across the globe are eligible to submit

  • Scholarships will be awarded in four departments - Law, Economics, Political and Social Sciences, and History and Civilization.

  • Applicants are required to check the minimum degree requirements set by the relevant grant authority to be eligible to apply for the EUI Ph.D. program.

  • Generally, applicants must meet the minimum degree requirements by 31 August, but some national grants have eligibility requirements that include conditions related to the degree and award time.

How to apply

For admission to the EUI Ph.D. Program, you must meet the minimum degree requirements set by the relevant grant authority. As a general rule, you should fulfil the minimum degree requirements by 31 August, but please note that this is not valid for candidates applying for some national funding programmes whose eligibility requirements include conditions regarding the degree and its time of award.
