Job Description :

A new doctoral program at the University of Oulu (UOULU) in Finland, I4WORLD - Imaging and Characterization for a Sustainable World - is funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action COFUND of Horizon Europe, a well-established doctoral training environment. The program will train 25 doctoral researchers in environmental, economic, and social sustainability. In order to achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, I4WORLD combines world-leading imaging and characterization methods. By developing unique capabilities beyond standard field-specific approaches, doctoral researchers will be able to identify and answer the fundamental questions that enable a better world. Research themes aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and well-being, Affordable and Clean Energy, Sustainable Industries and Production, Clean Water, Biodiversity, and Environment prepare future research and innovation leaders to tackle the global challenges of sustainability transition.

Eligibility Criteria :

  • In order to be considered as an Early-Stage Researcher (ESR), applicants should not hold a doctoral degree at the time of the program call. Candidates who have already successfully defended their doctoral thesis but have not yet received their doctorate are not eligible.

  • Mobility rule: researchers coming to Finland should not have spent more than 12 months in Finland before the end of the call on 31.1.2023.

  • You must hold a master's degree or equivalent (e.g., a licentiate) in any relevant discipline to the I4WORLD program by 31.1.2023. Having achieved a good grade in their degree (i.e. 60 % of the maximum grade in both taught courses and the master's thesis);

  • The ability to demonstrate sufficient English language skills is required to pursue doctoral studies.
