The British Council Women in STEM Scholarships support women who want to study a one-year Master’s degree in STEM fields at leading universities in the United Kingdom. The programme aims to increase opportunities for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, strengthen female leadership in research and innovation, and support a more diverse STEM sector.

The scholarship is designed especially for women from socioeconomically disadvantaged contexts who have a STEM background and need financial support to study in the UK. The programme has worked with many UK universities and has awarded around 500 scholarships globally.

Be a woman, as defined under UK legislation.
Be a permanent resident of, and hold a valid passport or recognised travel document from, one of the eligible countries.
Be able to obtain a UK visa using the travel document they hold.
Agree to return to their country of citizenship or residence for at least two years after the scholarship ends, except in very exceptional circumstances.
Meet the entry requirements of the selected UK university and Master’s programme.
Have completed an undergraduate degree, or be able to complete it before enrolment.
Meet the English language requirements of the selected course.
Demonstrate financial need and show that they cannot privately fund their UK studies.
Be active in STEM through work experience, study, research, or a proven interest in the proposed field.
Show motivation to contribute to STEM development and inspire other women and girls in their home country.
Be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and participate in alumni activities.
Preference may be given to applicants who have not had significant previous international study experience or previous study in the UK.
