The Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS) program, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), supports professionals from developing countries who want to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree in Germany. The program focuses on fields that contribute to sustainable development. These include economics, engineering, environmental sciences, public health, education, and social sciences. The goal is to equip professionals with advanced academic and practical skills they can apply in development-related work back in their home countries.

EPOS scholarships cover full tuition, living expenses, travel, and health insurance. Applicants need at least two years of relevant professional experience. They must also demonstrate a strong motivation to contribute to development efforts after graduation. Most courses are taught in English. Applicants can choose from a list of eligible programs at German universities. The selection process is competitive, and the application usually goes directly through the university offering the course.

Hold a bachelor’s degree (usually four years) in a relevant field
Have at least two years of professional work experience in a development-related field
Be currently working in a public authority, state institution, private company, or NGO in a developing or emerging country
Demonstrate strong commitment to development and returning to work in your home country
Have not been in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application
Meet the academic requirements of the selected course (e.g., GPA, language proficiency)
Provide proof of English or German language skills (depending on the course)

Motivation letter (linked to current job and development goals)
CV in Europass format
Academic degree certificates
Academic transcripts with grades
Proof of at least 2 years of work experience after graduation
Employer reference or confirmation of employment
Language certificate (English or German, depending on the course)
Recommendation letters (academic or professional)
Course-specific documents if required (check the program page)
