The University of Queensland Graduate School Scholarships, UQGSS, include the Research Training Program, RTP, and support students completing a research project at UQ. The scholarships are available for postgraduate research students, including applicants for a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, or research-focused professional doctorate. They are open to both domestic and international students across all study areas.

Applicants must not already receive a living allowance award or scholarship worth more than 75% of the RTP living allowance rate.
Applicants should identify a suitable supervisor in their research field.
Selection is based on academic performance, research capability, project quality, research environment, and advisory team quality.

Previous qualifications.
Referee details.
Passport copy for the final application.
Evidence of name change, citizenship, or previous research studies, if required.
Official English translation for documents not in English.

Find a supervisor whose expertise matches your proposed research project.
Prepare your required documents.
Submit an Expression of Interest, EOI, for your preferred program.
You do not need to apply separately for this scholarship.
Complete the scholarship/sponsorship section in the EOI.
If your nominated supervisor supports your EOI, UQ will invite you to submit a final application.

Do I need to apply separately for the scholarship?

No. Applicants submit an Expression of Interest for their preferred research program, and they do not need a separate scholarship application for UQGSS.

Can international students apply?

Yes. The scholarship is open to both domestic and international students.

What is the scholarship value?

The scholarship includes a living stipend of AUD $37,500 per year tax-free, based on the 2026 rate, plus OSHC for eligible international students.

Do I need a supervisor?

Yes, applicants should identify a supervisor in their field before applying. The nominated supervisor reviews the EOI, and if supported, the applicant may be invited to submit the final application.

Can I apply with pending results?

Yes. UQ says applicants with pending Honours or Master’s results can still apply by uploading a current transcript and providing the complete transcript later.
