The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is awarding 500 Humboldt Research Fellowships in 2025 to outstanding international researchers aiming to conduct high-quality, independent research in Germany. This fellowship targets ambitious postdoctoral and experienced scholars, facilitating cooperation between international talent and leading German academic institutions. Fellows will gain access to cutting-edge resources, networking opportunities, and a vibrant research environment to significantly advance their scientific careers.

The program duration is flexible, ranging between 6 and 24 months, and can be divided into up to three separate visits within a three-year timeframe. This flexibility allows researchers to balance their professional commitments while benefiting from continuous collaboration with German peers. Eligible candidates must hold a doctoral degree obtained within the past 12 years, demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, and present a well-defined, innovative research project that aligns with German institutional strengths.

You must hold a doctoral degree completed within the past 12 years.
You need an outstanding academic record demonstrating strong research potential.
Your proposed research project should reflect originality and clearly align with the expertise available at your chosen German host institution.
You must not have spent more than six months in Germany within the 18 months preceding your application.
Excellent proficiency in English or German is required, depending on your research project and the institution's requirements.

Updated academic CV, including publications and research experience.
Detailed research proposal clearly outlining objectives, methods, and expected outcomes.
Doctoral certificate (Ph.D. diploma) with date of completion.
List of key publications (max. 5) relevant to the proposed research.
Two recommendation letters from recognized academic experts familiar with your work.
Official invitation letter from your chosen German host institution confirming cooperation and research support.
Proof of language proficiency (English or German) if applicable.
