Undergraduate Internship, Category I | Applicants may be eligible if they are:

Holders of a first-level university degree, such as a Bachelor’s degree, obtained within the last two years before the internship application date.
Undergraduate students in their third or fourth year of study.
Students who need to complete an internship as part of their degree requirements.
Master’s students who have not yet completed the coursework or final thesis.
Able to work professionally in English and/or French.
Available for an internship of 2 to 6 months, depending on the position.

Graduate Internship, Category II | Applicants may be eligible if they are:

Holders of an advanced university degree, such as a Master’s degree, obtained within the last two years before the internship application date.
Graduate students who completed coursework but have not yet completed their thesis.
Graduate students who already obtained a first advanced degree and are pursuing another degree.
Able to work professionally in English and/or French.
Available for an internship of 2 to 12 months, depending on the position.

Assistance with Swiss visa formalities, if needed.

Is the WIPO Internship Program paid?

Yes. WIPO provides a monthly stipend. The amount depends on the internship category.

Can Bachelor’s students apply?

Can former WIPO interns apply again?

No. Former WIPO interns cannot apply for another WIPO internship, regardless of category.

Can I apply if I did an internship at another UN organization?

Yes. Previous internship experience with another UN organization does not disqualify you from applying to WIPO.

When can I apply?

WIPO advertises a new Internship Roster every year, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants should check the official WIPO internship page and roster regularly.

Is this internship remote?

No. WIPO internships cannot be carried out remotely. Interns are expected to work full-time.

Is this roster linked to one specific internship?

No. This is a general internship roster for openings that may arise during the year. Your profile will be reviewed when suitable internship opportunities become available.

Will all applicants be contacted?

No. Due to the large number of applications, only shortlisted candidates are contacted.

What if I am not contacted?

If you are not contacted within 6 months after the roster closing date, your application is considered unsuccessful for this specific roster, or there was no suitable opportunity matching your profile.

Can I reapply later?

Yes. Unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to apply again to the next internship roster if they still meet the eligibility criteria.

Do I need a motivation letter?

Yes. Candidates must add a cover letter or letter of motivation to their application.
