Eligibility :

To be eligible for the DAAD Research Grants, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Applicants should have graduated no longer than six years before the application deadline.

  2. If the applicant has already started their doctorate, the start date must not be more than three years ago.

  3. Applicants must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months at the application deadline.

Required documents :
  • Online Application Form: Complete on the DAAD portal.

  • Curriculum Vitae: Detailed, up to 3 pages.

  • List of Publications: If applicable, max. 10 pages.

  • Motivation Letter: 1-2 pages, detailing personal and academic reasons for the project in Germany.

  • Research Proposal: Extensive, up to 10 pages, including previous research and schedule for planned work, agreed upon with the academic supervisor.

  • Confirmation of Supervision: From the doctoral supervisor or proof of admission to a structured doctoral program.

  • Recommendation Letter: Recent and from a university teacher.

  • Language Proficiency Proof: Certificates not older than 2 years.

  • Certificates and Translations: All academic certificates, including school leaving and university certificates, with translations if not in German or English.

  • Identification Document: Valid passport, ID card, driver license, or student identity card.

Applications for this scholarship are possible from June until the stated application deadline.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Register in the DAAD Portal: Create an account in the portal. 

  2. Request Recommendation Form: Generate the recommendation form as a writable PDF in the DAAD Portal under 'Request recommendation form'.
    Send it to your university teacher for completion and upload it back in the portal under 'Letter of Recommendation'.

  3. Applying Online: Prepare and, if necessary, translate documents into German or English.
    Scan documents and save them in PDF format.

  4.  Fill out the application form and upload all documents in PDF format.
    Submit the application online.

  • Monthly stipend of €1,300.
