The DBU (German Federal Environmental Foundation) offers doctoral scholarships to support research on environmental protection and nature conservation. The scholarship provides financial support for up to 36 months, including a monthly grant of €1,600, additional material costs, and family allowances. It also includes personal support, interdisciplinary exchange opportunities, and networking events. Eligible candidates must have an above-average degree and focus on solving current environmental problems. Applications are open to all disciplines and must be submitted in German.

Gain scientific knowledge and develop new solution approaches for environmental protection and nature conservation.
Support highly motivated doctoral students to complete their doctorates within three years.
Qualify young scientists with high environmental competence.
Facilitate networking between environmental experts from various disciplines.
Eligible candidates must have an above-average degree and a relevant research focus.
Eligibility :
Sustainable Solutions: Your doctorate aims to develop sustainable solutions for current environmental problems.
Academic Excellence: You have or are earning an above-average degree; all majors are eligible.
Coherent Resume: Your academic and professional history is consistent.
Relevant Research: Your doctoral thesis addresses environmental issues in Germany or global challenges relevant to Germany.
Doctorate in Germany: Your doctorate will be pursued at a German university and has not yet started (not more than 1 year of scientific work on your doctoral topic since graduation).
General Conditions
Interdisciplinary Research: Applications are welcome from all disciplines, including natural and engineering sciences, social sciences, humanities, economics, and law. Interdisciplinary environmental research is especially encouraged.
Language Requirement: The complete application documents must be written in German, and applicants must have good knowledge of German.
Stays Abroad: Possible as long as the doctoral studies mainly occur at the supervising institution in Germany.
Application Integrity: Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will not be considered. Only one application per working group/scientific supervisor per round is allowed. Reapplication is not permitted after rejection.
Individual Support: Fellowships support individuals, not institutions, and should not be part of uncoordinated bundling of topics.
