The Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (AGRTPS) (International) are specifically designed to support international students undertaking a Higher Degree by research at Flinders University. For visa purposes, the AGRTPS is a Commonwealth Sponsored Scholarship.
This scholarship is highly competitive, with a limited number of up to 5 awards available each year. Awards are granted to candidates demonstrating exceptional aptitude for independent research, judged primarily on academic merit, academic research training, and research outputs. The scholarship is tenable for up to 3.5 years for a Research Doctorate degree, and successful applicants are required to undertake full-time study.
Eligibility :
Be a citizen of any overseas country (except New Zealand) and not hold Australian citizenship, Australian permanent resident status, or New Zealand citizenship.
Intend to commence full-time study for a higher degree by research in Australia for the first time in the year the award is offered. (Note: Exceptions apply for students who commenced the previous year but missed the application window, or who terminated their enrolment within six months of commencement).
Intend to enroll in an area of "research concentration" at Flinders University (areas with particular research strength and resources).
Meet all entry requirements for a higher degree by research, including English Language Proficiency Requirements. Important: English test results must be valid until March 31, 2027, to be considered eligible.
Required documents :
Proof of Supervisor Agreement: Email evidence showing an informal agreement from a Flinders academic staff member to supervise your research.
Publications (Max 5): Evidence of up to five publications (no more than 5 years old), preferably in English. Each must include a completed coversheet with a publication URL.
Academic Transcripts: Certified copies of all university-level academic transcripts, translated into English (do not include high school or non-educational certificates).
Research Proposal: A brief proposal of approximately 500 words outlining your research problem, hypothesis/question, and methodology.
Curriculum Vitae (CV): An updated CV detailing your work experience, research experience, and a full list of your cited publications.
Academic Referee Reports: Two Academic Referee's Confidential Report forms. You must complete Section A and send them to your chosen referees, who must email the completed forms directly to hdr.scholarships@flinders.edu.au before the closing date.
How to apply :
Apply for Admission: Submit an application for admission to a Higher Degree by research (PhD or Master of Arts by research) via the Studylink portal on the Flinders University website.
Get Your Student ID: Once you complete your registration, a Flinders student ID will be created for you within an hour. Keep a record of this number.
Activate Your Account: Use your Student ID and date of birth to activate your account and receive your Flinders Authentication Name (FAN).
Apply for the Scholarship: Log in to the Student System using your active FAN and submit your application for the International HDR scholarship group.
Deadline: Applications close at midnight on Thursday, 18 June 2026 (Australian Central Standard Time).
The Scholarship Benefits:
Living Stipend: A tax-free living stipend paid at the standard Australian Government rate of $36,061.00 per annum (2026 full-time rate).
Tuition Offset: A Research Training Program (RTP) place that provides a tuition fee offset for up to 4 years.
Health Cover: Overseas Health Care cover is included.
Establishment Allowance: An allowance of up to $1,485 to assist with relocation costs and airfares for students moving to Adelaide from overseas (receipts must be provided).
