The GIST International Scholarships provide fully funded opportunities for talented international students to pursue Master’s, PhD, and integrated M.S./Ph.D. degrees at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in South Korea. The program covers tuition, living expenses, and additional benefits, allowing students to focus entirely on their studies and research.

Eligibility :
Open to non-Korean international students only
Master’s program: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or be expected to graduate before enrollment
PhD program: Applicants must hold a master’s degree or be expected to graduate before enrollment
Integrated M.S./Ph.D. program: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Strong academic record and research potential required
Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent); waiver possible if previous degree was taught in English
Required documents :
Completed online application form
Degree certificates or proof of expected graduation
Academic transcripts
Two recommendation letters from professors or academic referees
Proof of English proficiency (or waiver request)
Copy of valid passport
Optional: statement for matriculation fee waiver or English proficiency confirmation from home university
How to apply :
Step 1: Register on the GIST online application portal
Step 2: Fill out the application form and upload all required documents
Step 3: Submit the application before the deadline (spring or fall intake)
Step 4: Await evaluation and admission decision
Step 5: If accepted, scholarship is automatically granted and enrollment procedures begin
The Scholarship Benefits:
Full tuition fee waiver (approximately 3.6 million KRW per semester)
Monthly stipends:
Master’s: 140,000 KRW
PhD: 295,000 KRW
Additional allowances:
Meal allowance: 100,000 KRW/month (if enrolled in at least 9 credits)
International student allowance: 120,000 KRW/month (for GPA 3.0/4.5 or higher)
Research assistantship support:
Master’s: 6.4 million KRW/year
PhD: 13.7 million KRW/year
Dormitory or apartment housing support
Comprehensive health insurance and annual medical checkup
One-time flight reimbursement for new international students
