More details :

The Sophie Germain Scholarship, offered by the Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard (FMJH), is one of the most prestigious awards for students pursuing advanced studies in mathematics. Named after the pioneering French mathematician, this program is designed to support both French and international talent enrolling in the "Mathematics and Applications" Master’s programs at the University of Paris-Saclay or the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. The scholarship aims to foster academic excellence and diversity within the global mathematical community, providing a bridge to high-level research and doctoral studies.

The program offers a comprehensive academic environment where scholars are integrated into a vibrant research-driven community. From the beginning of their Master’s degree, recipients benefit from specialized mentoring, introductory lectures, and interactive sessions with PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. This structured support system is intended to help students understand the full scope of mathematical research and prepare them for a seamless transition into a PhD program within the Hadamard Mathematics Doctoral School (EDMH).

Recipients join a network of elite scientists and researchers in France, gaining access to cutting-edge facilities and collaborative events such as the "Master's Day" and scientific seminars. By removing financial barriers through substantial stipends and travel grants, the Fondation Hadamard ensures that the world's most promising mathematical minds can focus entirely on their scientific growth. The scholarship is a gateway for students wishing to contribute to fields ranging from pure mathematics to applied areas like Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Eligibility :
  • Academic Background: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (for M1 entry) or have completed the first year of a Master’s (for M2 entry) in mathematics or a closely related field.

  • Target Programs: Must apply for the "Mathematics and Applications" Master’s program at either the University of Paris-Saclay or the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

  • Nationality: Open to students of all nationalities, with a focus on attracting international students from outside the Paris-Saclay region.

  • Merit-Based: Selection is based on academic excellence, evidenced by transcripts and strong recommendation letters.

  • Administrative Requirement: Non-European international students must obtain a Campus France file number to facilitate their visa processing.

Required documents :
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): Detailing academic achievements and relevant research experience.

  • Transcripts: Official records from each institution attended during the Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree.

  • Study Plan: A document (maximum 2 pages) explaining your background, interest in mathematics, and career goals.

  • Letters of Recommendation: Contact information for two academic referees who will be automatically invited to upload their letters.

  • Identity Document: A scanned copy of a valid passport or ID card.

How to apply :
  • Select Your Program: Choose a specific research track within the "Mathematics and Applications" Master's degree at Paris-Saclay or IP Paris.

  • Submit FMJH Application: Complete the online scholarship application form on the Fondation Hadamard website.

  • Submit University Application: Simultaneously apply for admission to the chosen Master’s program on the official portal of Université Paris-Saclay or Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

  • Register Referees: Provide your referees' email addresses in the FMJH portal early to give them enough time to upload their letters by the referee deadline (typically one week after the main deadline).

  • Administrative Formalities: International students should contact their local Campus France office immediately to start the visa pre-registration process.

  • Selection: Results are typically announced five weeks after the application deadline.

The Scholarship Benefits:
  • Annual Stipend: A net living allowance of €11,000 per year.

  • Registration Fees: A flat-rate allowance (approximately €500) to help cover university registration costs.

  • Travel and Visa Grant: Up to €2,000 for international students to cover round-trip airfare and visa expenses.
