The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is dedicated to advancing science in developing countries through scholarships, fellowships, research grants, and training programs. These opportunities are designed to support researchers, scientists, and graduate students in natural sciences, engineering, and related fields.

TWAS offers a wide range of funded programs, from PhD and postdoctoral fellowships to visiting scientist exchanges and research grants. These initiatives are hosted in partnership with top universities and institutes around the world, including institutions in India, Italy, and across the Global South.

Eligibility :
  • Open to citizens of developing countries recognized by TWAS

  • Must hold the relevant academic qualifications depending on the program:

    • PhD Fellowships: Master’s degree or equivalent in a scientific field

    • Postdoctoral Fellowships: PhD in a relevant area of study

    • Research Grants/Training: Master’s degree or higher with research background

  • Applicants must be employed in a university or research institution in their home country (some programs)

  • Good command of English (or language of instruction at host institution)

  • Applicants may only apply to one TWAS or OWSD program per calendar year

Required documents :
  • Completed online application form via TWAS portal

  • CV or resume with research and academic achievements

  • Academic transcripts and degree certificates

  • Research proposal or study plan (for PhD and postdoc fellowships)

  • Two or more recommendation letters from professors or supervisors

  • Proof of English language proficiency (if required by host institution)

  • Copy of valid passport or national ID

  • Additional program-specific documents (e.g., list of publications, host institution invitation)

  • Choose the program that matches your academic level (PhD, postdoc, training, or research grant).

  • Review the eligibility criteria and ensure you meet all requirements.
