The University of Verona has opened a public selection call for admission to its PhD programmes, XLII cycle. The call includes the awarding of 104 PhD scholarships across different doctoral programmes.

A PhD is the highest level of university education in the Italian academic system. At the University of Verona, PhD study is designed to help students develop advanced independent research skills and complete an original research project, normally over a three-year period.

Eligibility :
  • Hold an Italian Laurea Magistrale, Laurea Specialistica, or equivalent qualification.

  • International applicants may apply with a foreign Master’s-level degree, such as a Master of Science or Master of Arts, if the degree allows access to PhD study in the country where it was awarded.

  • Applicants with foreign degrees must upload supporting documents such as:

    • Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcript,

    • Master’s degree certificate and transcript,

    • diploma supplement, if available.

  • Documents can usually be submitted in Italian, English, Spanish, or French.

  • Documents in other languages must include a certified translation.

  • Current Master’s students may apply if they expect to graduate by the enrolment date. If selected, they receive a conditional offer and must submit the final graduation certificate by the required deadline.

  • Each PhD programme may have its own additional requirements, so applicants must check the page of their chosen programme.

  • Valid ID or passport.

  • CV or academic resume.

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcript.

  • Master’s degree certificate and transcript.

  • Diploma supplement, if available.

  • Research proposal or project statement, if requested by the specific PhD programme.

  • Motivation statement, if requested.

  • Publications list, if applicable.

  • Language certificate, if required by the programme.

  • Any additional documents requested by the chosen PhD programme.

  • Certified translations for documents not issued in Italian, English, Spanish, or French.

How to apply :
  • Go to the University of Verona PhD application webpage.

  • New users must register in the online system.

  • Current or former University of Verona students, or already registered users, should log in with their existing credentials.

  • Select the chosen PhD programme from:
    Registrar’s Office → Admission test → Admission test

  • Complete the online application form.

  • Upload all required qualifications and supporting documents in PDF format.

  • Name each file clearly so that its content is easy to identify.

  • Pay the mandatory application fee using the automatically generated PagoPA payment slip.

  • Submit the application before the official deadline.

The University states that the application fee is €10, non-refundable, and must be paid by the deadline. The fee is required for each application, up to a maximum of three applications.

The Scholarship Benefits:
  • Annual scholarship amount of €17,602.57 gross, before the required INPS social security contributions.

  • Scholarship paid in monthly instalments.

  • Scholarship awarded for the full duration of the doctoral programme.

  • Exemption from the annual flat-rate registration fee of €250.

  • At pre-registration, students pay only €208, made up of:€192 regional tax for the right to study,
    €16 stamp duty paid virtually.

  • Opportunity to study and conduct research at a public university in Italy.

  • Access to doctoral training, research supervision, and academic development.
