The CGRS M program supports high-achieving students in Canada who are beginning graduate studies. It helps develop research skills and supports the training of highly qualified personnel across all disciplines.
Each scholarship provides $27,000 for one year (12 months). The program supports up to 3,000 students annually and is administered jointly by Canada’s three granting agencies: CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC.
Eligibility :
Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person by the application deadline
Must be enrolled in, or applying to, a full-time master’s or eligible doctoral program at a Canadian institution with a CGRS M allocation
Must have completed 0–12 months of full-time graduate studies by December 31 of the application year
Must not have previously held a master’s-level scholarship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC
Must have achieved a first-class average (as defined by the institution) in the last two years of study
Must submit only one scholarship/fellowship application per year to CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC
Program must include a significant research component (thesis, major project, dissertation, or

Completed Research Portal application form
Canadian Common CV confirmation number
Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions
Research proposal summary and supporting attachments
Two referee assessments submitted electronically
Certified translations for documents not in English or French
How to apply :
Create an account in the Research Portal (opens in early September).
Complete the Canadian Common CV (CCV) and link it to your application.
Fill out the CGRS M application form online.
Select up to three institutions where you want to hold the award.
Upload official transcripts and required documents.
Invite referees to complete their online assessments.
Submit the application through the Research Portal by December 1, 8:00 p.m. ET.
